Spier railway station.
Spier's railway station where you disembark and embark with a special train from Cape Town to Spier via Metrorail.

WE, Hilary and I were treated to 5 star brilliance by Wendy Burridge.
When we arrived we were escorted to the Eagle Encounters as a show was about to start.

We spent a good couple of hours just listening to the guides and wandering around the enclosures where we observed owls, eagles, hawks, kites, vultures, secretary birds and even a porcupine. From the guides, I understand that these are birds that have been either injured or kept illegally and are brought here to be nursed or rehabilitated in one form or another to be put back into the wild as far as possible.

Some of the birds at Spier Eagle Encounter.

The pond with its weeping willows, fish and bird life are a visitor magnet. Many photos have been taken around the pond with its lush green lawn just inviting you to have a picnic. Picnic baskets is available from Eight restaurant/deli. Just give them a call in advance to avoid disappointment.

The Dam at Spier.

The grounds at Spier are enormous with many weddings and receptions taking place here! What scenery, what a pleasure for photographers!

We were then given a tour of the wine tasting room and whisked off to Eight. This is a deli restaurant that really has their act together. Very few restaurants of this size can come up with a menu like this one can.

The proof was in tasting. What an absolutely gastronomic experience.
I thought that this excellent experience was just for me but alas I am sad to say that everyone I observed was in the same throes of gastronomical ecstasy and were really enjoying the food that was placed exactly as they ordered in front of them. What an experience!
